Public history is history produced by the public, with the public, for the public and in public spaces.
The Public History Collaborative, inaugurated in July 2019, brings the public, students, staff & faculty together to produce and practice history.
Intellectual Commitment
The practice of history is never an individual enterprise, but it can be rather private. The PHC wants to change that. We have an intellectual commitment to working with members of the university community and the broader public of southern Arizona to make the making of history (the practice, the process, and the products) more public.
Ethical Commitment
The PHC is committed to a practice of history that sees the public as producers of history. As such we are also committed to ensuring that the projects we sponsor and partner with are not extractive or exploitive in any way.
Partnerships
The Public History Collaborative is also mobile. We go to individuals and organizations outside of the university to engage with history. If you are interested in partnering, contact the PHC at phc@arizona.edu
