An essential component of public history is, well, public. The Department of History collaborates with communities on a wide range of historical topics all across southern Arizona and beyond.
Professor Tyina Steptoe, for example, hosts a radio show called Soul Stories at Tucson's Community Radio Station KXCI 91.3.
As the radio station explains, Dr. Steptoe, "explores the roots and branches of rhythm and blues music by spotlighting soul music in its various forms – old-school, Quiet Storm, Chicanx soul, Island soul, blue-eyed soul, etc. The program will also highlight important themes in soul music history, and shine a spotlight on the soul music scenes in different places and times."

The Department and the PHC also offer community learning opportunities through the Downtown Lecture Series and OLLI (the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute).
One of the PHC's closest community partners is the Arizona Historical Society where Katherine Morrissey has collaborated to produce student-made exhibits on the history of the Southern Arizona region to be displayed in the museum.
